After primarily reading about the contestants of RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 8, it was interesting to hear them say their names out loud. I was particularly interested in how Thorgy Thor pronounced her name — I thought it was like Ghee, the butter derived spread but instead it is more like “Gee wilikers, Mister Wilson, I sure do think that Dennis is a menace!”
The episode opened with of course the introductions — which was where I found out that I had been “saying” the names of some of the queens wrong in my mind. Oops? Quite okay, none of you had to hear me “say” them wrong. Thorgy.
The episode featured the previous seven winners from RuPaul’s Drag Race other than Bianca Del Rio (I do not believe that she just wasn’t able to make it, call me a conspiracy theorist but Bianca makes it all over the world sans problem!) in a couple of challenges. The first one featured each contestant taking photos with the previous winners. Some of the queens did better than others — Naysha, particularly did not do so well.
Next up was a best of from the previous seasons in which contestants were assigned a previous main stage challenge from the first seven episodes. Yes, this included the oddly creepy Hello Kitty challenge, and Hello Kitty herself was back to help with matters.
Quick interlude for a message from RuPaul:
Now onto the meat of this review — when you are on RuPaul’s Drag Race, EXPECT TO HAVE TO SEW! When Naysha was explaining why her outfit looked the way that it did, she actually said that it was the first time she had ever sewed together an outfit. That is completely unacceptable.
I think this tweet says it quite well:
So it shouldn’t have been much of a surprise when Naysha was in the bottom two… but so was Laila McQueen, who seemed to be hiding herself during the photo shoot and was not particularly spectacular on the main stage… but when she lip synced for her life (Lady Gaga’s Applause) she really brought it and showed that she deserved to stay on. See you next week right here!
