For the next few weeks I hope to profile most if not all of the queens who are competing on this season of RuPaul’s Drag Race. I will profile them in no particular order.
There are three — count ’em, three contestants this season hailing from New York. Two are from Brooklyn and one is from Manhattan. Feel free to make dopey hipster jokes if you wish. The first we shall look at — and the oldest contestant this season (young at heart, mind you!) is Acid Betty.
According to her web site, Acid Betty is :
famous for being the first and only hybrid drag queen in the world, Acid Betty is an artist, stylist, and a performer.
Acid Betty appeared as a guest model on Season Five of Project Runway. Every time I watch that show, I want to ask my mother to borrow my grandmother’s sewing machine and see if I can make some fine apparel for my daughter. Not my son, mind you. He’s pretty much only interested in clothing if it has dinosaurs or Darth Vader on it.
In 2010, Acid Betty appeared in an online film educating people about homosexuality itself.
Then there’s the genius of 2014’s Every Three Seconds Project which appears to be ongoing. Watch to understand why it’s so clever.
Last, but not least… buttons! I love buttons… and these are brilliant.
Acid Betty looks to be quite a fierce contestant this year on RuPaul’s Drag Race.
Two profiles done, ten to go! Tomorrow : Cynthia Lee Fontaine.
